My name is Madeline, a Global Studies and Political Science major at Hope College. In addition to MENA and migration studies, I have a passion for language-learning (Spanish and Arabic), human rights and humanitarianism, interfaith dialogue, and multicultural exchange. You can usually find me hiking, traveling somewhere new, reading, or tucked away in a coffee shop with friends!
And my name is Joe, a recent graduate of Gettysburg College– where I also studied Political Science and Global Studies. I have a deep love for research, especially the intersection of human stories and macro-level data. I am a French-speaker and Arabic-learner, avid runner and swimmer, and am always in the middle of a new book (oftentimes about migration and/or Middle Eastern studies). You can usually find me at the beach or hanging out with friends.
We both share field experience in North Africa and Europe, namely in Tunisia, Morocco, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and France. For us, this project is more than the brainchild of scholarly inquiry or general curiosity… Rather, this is an attempt to illuminate the realities of human mobility in the Euro-Mediterranean space. Migration is an intrinsically human phenomena rooted in our earliest history, but it has been distorted and re-shaped, often with drastically uneven power distributions.
